Learning from other countries

The USA has been a pioneer in Science and Technology over the last 4-5 centuries. Almost all innovations and discoveries have come from them. Their contributions are so immense that are referred and followed globally. Lots of Scientific discoveries have come from them. Even today, lots of IT software innovations and new products are developed by them for use in business. They solely have been able to drive the world forward. Although India has several cultural references of being a pioneer in Science, we have not been able to take any innovative steps in this sector. The Education system in India has improved yet we still lag other countries. Many of Indian workers of today are outsourced to the USA and they seem to perform well but they are merely users of others’ creations. We are not able to drive Science, Technology, Space, Medical, Defence sectors which enjoy major budget globally. The USA has stormed IT business and has been developing new and innovative products at large for ease of business.

Despite having knowledgeable resources at hand through IIT and IIM in India we still are mere consumers. What makes the USA the best? How different is their education system from India? Many of our Political and Business Leaders travel to the USA and are aware of how their Universities work towards imparting and igniting knowledge in the Students. Even the drop out students from their Universities have managed to create an empire and become successful business entrepreneurs. Time has come for us having one of the biggest working population to be more agile and learn from them and come up with innovative solutions to improve business and living. The Schools and Colleges should improve/change their curriculum in such a way to let the students think in delivering/creating new products and become business owners. Today even McDonalds and KFC rule Indian Markets. Their Fashion inspires us to be better. We depend a lot on their outsourcing. They have been able to make lots of money through video games, cartoons, animations, and other android apps. We must find various options available for us and feel the taste of today’s people and deliver products accordingly.

Even though there have been several promotions on consuming Indian products we still haven’t been completely able to replace the products produced in other countries and challenge their quality. China is the largest producer in the world. Lots of Electronics come from them. USA is the biggest consumer of China Products and India too is growing and fed by them. Despite Make-In-India Campaigns India hasn’t been able to provide ease of business to corporate companies of the world. Due to corruption and slow working rate we are left to lag China. Hence the Producing space and employment rate too has shrunk. Many of our working aged men and women are without jobs. Despite having large landscape and abled working population we sit behind.

Defense sector is one sector where we are light years behind. Countries like France, Germany are doing good in producing aircraft, weapons. In this world of terrorism with our own neighbors being against us and engaging in war against our army, we are not able to provide quality equipment to our army and navy. Even countries like North Korea and Iran have Nuclear Energy which they would use in case of terrorist activities against them and to safeguard themselves against foreign threats. But a country as big as India is still working with outdated weapons. Our defense budget is in no way close to that of our closest competitor, China.

The other countries are growing at a faster pace today and even though we say that India grows at 7-8% YoY, with Inflation still high and with people not having even the basic amenities, we are in no position to catch our pace with other countries like China, Australia, Germany and the USA. Time has come for us to reassess ourselves and provide appropriate platforms for the younger generation to excel in today’s agile world.
