[InFocus] Majid Majidi

For few Cinema is a science – for instance Christopher Nolan. He brings then concept of science into his films. The screenplay, movie’s core is built on top of science. And why not? We have tried to ascertain every event that happens in our life to science.  Even the music that Nolan feeds in his movies bear science. And I am a great fan of Nolan and his movies. But then there are few directors like Alejandro Gonzalaez Inarittu, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica who treat Cinema as an art. They have all given importance to characters in the movie and their feelings. They all have expressed human emotions at their best. And here we have one who shows life at its simple and best. Characters defined with utmost simplicity – Majid Majidi. Majidi isn’t a man who complicates cinema. He flows like a thin air, like a pleasant wind. He doesn’t use twisted /webbed screenplays or confuses people with adverse characters. People who portray his films know exactly what they’re

The Survivors

There are a several living things that evolved over time. Several of them had survived until today while a lot of them vanished due to being unadaptable. It is not the dominators who had survived the test of times but the ordinary living things that were flexible to the environment. A lot of animals that existed millions of years ago don’t exist anymore. While a few species have thrived over times. In a similar way, the dominators of a particular technology and work don’t prevail for a longer duration but the people who are flexible with tools and techniques sustain over a long period of time. It is the survivors who rebuild themselves according to the different infrastructure and surroundings and take the world forward. Technical brilliance is necessary, but the primitive fact is the understanding of the basics. How well we understand our platform – how comfortably placed we are in that – how well we predict the future trends – decide on our fate and our existence. We have to be

Forever Young

In this fast moving world, no one has time for others. People are not even concerned about others’ issues. They are selfish and focus only on the benefits that they need. Due to the advancement in technology, although the world has shrunk and brought people closer, it hasn’t been fully utilized that way. The more people have been brought closer the more they are separated far apart. We don’t even care to know who sits next to us in office. This has become a virtual world. The No-Care attitude has cropped up in us. We have even got to the stage of ignoring our good friends. We don’t have time to participate in our friends’ events. We don’t have time to answer their texts and calls. We have come up with a firewall against the closer world and reduced our communications and relationships. Sympathy, Care, Love, Friendship – these became the qualities of the past. We are only focused on generating income and build our future on that. Thus man, using all of his senses has started to become

The Wind will carry us

Few believe that we are responsible for every events and actions. We bear the sole responsibility of our success/failure. It is because we drive the actions towards our goal. No one else is held accountable for our loss. Everything is being executed by our plans and the way we travel. Our life is in our hands. Everything happens for a reason and so on. Few others believe that destiny is the one that is responsible for carrying us in a specific direction. Everything is being written by God and he has a perfect screenplay already written for each of us and we are mere dolls who move towards the destination that he has set. Everything – every event that occurs is pre-planned. We are mere actors who execute the written things. One flavor is science while the other is attributed to religion. However, we can’t deny both. With these facts in mind, while we track our life and life’s various events – we also tend to notice that there are several people whom we meet – several events that h

Have we lost our Identity?

India - For years we had been a nation enriched with best culture, traditions and lifestyle. The way our people lived were like an example to many other nations. Rich in language, religion and art we were the dominating ones and perhaps the old ones around the world. Our civilization was the best and well-studied/researched by several scholars. Although divided by caste, religion and language, we were exhibiting unity in our relationships. A flurry of cultures thronged this part of the world for long and survived the test of times. We worshiped God – Nature as well. We lived the way Vedas taught us to live. The Kings ruled as per the customs that were established and written by Vedic Gurus. Each and every man lived the way according to his duties that were planned. Everyone followed the Dharma and complemented each other. We were great predictors of the future through astrology and great scholars of the functioning and effects of the solar system’s objects movements. We were the firs

Why So Serious, Huh ?

Of course the outside world is challenging. It is evolving every minute and we have to adapt to it at the right time. We have to be making continuous progress. We are often held up and occupied with tasks. We don’t have time for others. The fear of getting left behind has groped us. Whole day we reflect the issues we face or about to face at work. We are completely immersed into an ocean of problems before even they reach us. We forget our identity and play someone else. We portray an altogether new human which is nowhere close to ourselves. In that process we forget our true selves and don’t live life to the fullest. The very reason for this is the world and the platform which has gone increasingly challenging. People with similar or more knowledge and skills are out there – out to demolish us and we are caught in a vicious circle of survival. We are merely focused towards hanging on – to survive – to let the time move. Relationships - especially people management tactics have g

Top 5 Football Leagues of the World

You’re full of life, if you’re a football fan. Few believe football is not just a game of life and death, it’s much more than that. This is a game that is widely played and followed all over the world. A game that unites people across religion, castes, boundaries and continents. There’s love, hatred, agony, ecstasy – you name it, everything is embedded in this beautiful game that’s a pure delight to play and watch. Like many, I too have been caught by this fever for long – ever since 1998. Until then I was a Cricket fan and the introduction and magnificence of this game has turned and evolved me as a person in life. I’ve learned a lot from this game and it is not just about the game - I’ve learned a lot about life as well. There have been players who were more famous than the Presidents of the World – Players who were worshiped. The play, the game itself is Godly. There are very few things that are more beautiful and lively than football. A game that has spanned for over 120 years in

Few Decade long Dreams come true

It has been a decade long dream to write some short stories. Although I was an avid blogger, who often used to write about a lot of things, somehow this was undone for in fact a very long time. I was too much into poetry and current events and always felt bored to write short stories and stories. I was not a reader who would read a book that has more than 10 pages. When that is my habit, how would I feel about writing a book that is 100 pages long. These thoughts have been flowing through my mind and kept me from writing stories and short stories. I always would like to write stories in such a way that resembles a movie since it has a valid narrative style. Sometime during Jan 2017 when I was jobless, I started writing full-fledged book by keeping my rule intact of not growing more than 15-20 pages. They could be called short books. I completed two - one was philosophical and the other being related to Economics. Both of them was well received. I had been desperate to write s

Healthcare ~ 2018

At the time when the Indian Govt. has finally realized the importance of healthcare, let us go over the necessity of the hour to unleash the vitality of healthcare services in the country. The nation with over 1.5 billion people, it is true to provide quality medical services to the people, but did we ever take any steps to provide even the basic infrastructure for the common man? Millions of death in the nation has occurred due to ignorance. Common man has been deprived of free basic medical facilities. With over 15-20% of the population still below the poverty line, providing the basic infrastructure is the biggest challenge of the Govt. and this Govt. has ensured the necessity of it and has come up with a wonderful plan to cover over 0.5 billion people providing them with basic amenities. The current budget has a lot to go with the massive allocation of funds in this sector. For sure this sector is going to grow rapidly in the next 5 years. Lot of investment in the healthcare

India Budget #2018

Some say “Better late than never”, while others believe “What’s the point when everything is lost?”. This budget by NDA puts them in people’s minds to make them feel that they are important, but is it too little too late? Common man had seen insurmountable difficulties in the name of #GST and #DeMo. Farmers were battling hard to survive in this market. Education and health care were over looked so far. Has the Govt. finally reacted? Has the Govt. realized its mistake on ignoring the needs of the hour. A look at the budget in a neutral perspective. Agriculture – The first thing that comes to my mind is the farmers. They have been so far neglected and have been facing lots of issues with respect to pricing. Finally the Govt. has started noticing the importance of them (especially after the Gujarat mandate). A massive boost to them in terms of improvement in pricing and assurance from the Govt. on offering the increased price. Separate welfare schemes for village and rural infrast
