India Budget #2018
Some say “Better late than never”,
while others believe “What’s the point when everything is lost?”. This budget
by NDA puts them in people’s minds to make them feel that they are important,
but is it too little too late? Common man had seen insurmountable difficulties
in the name of #GST and #DeMo. Farmers were battling hard to survive in this
market. Education and health care were over looked so far. Has the Govt.
finally reacted? Has the Govt. realized its mistake on ignoring the needs of
the hour. A look at the budget in a neutral perspective.
- Agriculture – The first thing that comes to my mind is the farmers. They have been so far neglected and have been facing lots of issues with respect to pricing. Finally the Govt. has started noticing the importance of them (especially after the Gujarat mandate). A massive boost to them in terms of improvement in pricing and assurance from the Govt. on offering the increased price. Separate welfare schemes for village and rural infrastructure development. Certainly this has got something that farmers are to rejoice. But this should have been done much more earlier to ease their pressure.
- Education – Massive amount of investment into this sector to boost quality and infrastructure. Regularizing the framework and structuring the segment. Giving adequate training to the teachers to help enable them to provide up to date knowledge to the students. Waking the students to the latest and advanced courses. Overall complete redevelopment. This has been long pending and required attention. Good that the Govt. realizing the powers of the youth and this move would certainly empower them to their destiny.
- Healthcare – Rs. 5 lac insurance for 10 crore families affecting 50 crore citizen. Where will that money come from is a big question? Do we have enough infrastructure already comes next. However this is a first and vital step towards enabling a healthy India. This scheme when properly implemented would be a treat to all because the need of the hour is to ensure good health for people. A significant step towards a better nation, this has to be welcomed. The poor and the needy must get the taste of this scheme. They must be ensured safety.
- Green Initiative, Clean India, Toilet construction – Good initiatives and must continue
- Free LPG connections for 8 crore women, Free electricity for below poverty citizens – Good
- Small/Medium Businesses – Largely ignored. Significant amount of tax cut and support was required to be offered but no news on them. Startups are not given morale boost.·
- Railways – Gets Wifi and CCTV installations. This is in mind keeping the security and the requirements of today.
- Middle Class -Completely ignored. No change in tax slab. With raising inflation, it was required to increase the tax slab and raise exemptions, but left ignored in this budget.
Overall, this has been a budget
keeping the coming center elections next year. The Govt. has finally nodded
towards the poor for vote share. Had this been done before would have gotten
thumbs up but it is too late. People have started losing their faith on this Govt.
and their funda of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’. Time will only tell about the
actual implementations of these schemes and people’s verdict on this Govt’s
performance over the last 5 years and if they feel the NDA is to be re-elected.
