90s ~ A Celebration #India

For almost all of them in this world, the most joyous time that they had spent in their life would be their childhood days. Especially the early school days where we used to have lots of fun apart from rigorous studies which follows. Yet we never failed to miss the fun that we had with our friends. The best of friends came from those days and rest of the acquaintances that we had after that weren’t as powerful as the ones we had during our school. Our hearts were pure and was ready to offer any help without expecting anything in return. We were built by our friends, parents and teachers. So, the most important memories were during our early school days. Since I was born in the 80s I could fully absorb the vital things that came with the 90s. I was able to fully exploit and enjoy the 90s as far as possible. Till date I never felt at any instance that I had the most memorable moments at any point in time other than the 90s.

I was studious as hell but that didn’t avoid me from enjoying the different attributes that were brought by the 90s. We were the last generation to enjoy Radio. Back here in India, people were mad as hell for All India Radio and Ceylon stations. We used to enjoy Cricket commentary when we didn’t have the luxury of affording TVs. We were the first generation to enjoy Colour TVs. The life it brought in terms of feel was mind blowing. We were the first generation to play hand held video games and video cassette enabled video games (example., Mario). We were the first generation to experience Internet and Online games. We were the first generation who started sending and receiving emails. Mobile Phones, Pagers and Cellular too were introduced in 90s. Cartoons flourished in the 90s. Movies and Songs were at their best in the 90s.

Although India was not doing great business the people were content with what they had. Unlike now the prices of commodities, gold, grocery products were under check. Although the infrastructure was not great, yet we didn’t feel inferior to anyone. IT was perhaps in the starting phase in the 90s. The world markets saw India as a potential contributor and it led to globalization. People didn’t have large sums of money but were happy and satisfied. 90s were times when every school kids played outdoor games. When the small kids used to save parents’ provided pocket monies for eating chocolates/Ice Creams. It was the time when WWE was played by all kids with trump cards and The Undertaker was considered the beast who died and was reborn. We heard lots of bedtime stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata from our parents. 90s were the times when we went on vacations to our relatives’/Cousins’ houses. They were the times when we used to play all day under the thick summer light. We felt hot sun on our bodies and drenched in rain during winter.

Television serials were made with good quality. We had lots of triangular love stories in movies. Doordarshan was the only channel available at that time and we died for watching songs from the new movies on that channel. The TV channels played lots of attractive TV serials and cartoons every day. Tom and Jerry, Duck Tales and many more amazed us. The entire country was united when India played a Cricket match. We celebrated festivals like Diwali and Pongal with our hearts out. Many of us bought our first computers in the 90s. But we used them mainly for listening songs, watching movies and playing car race games. Mobile phones were a sensation at that time despite the configuration being too low. Nokia and Reliance ruled. We bought our first bicycles and TVS 50s during those days. In fact, there are many attributes which made us live life during those times. Now we are just slaves of time and money. It is true that those days would never come again but the memories will be relished. The TV serials, the 90s Hindi movies, Old Tamil Songs/Movies, Cartoons, Video Games, Outdoor sports and much more... They will remain in our hearts forever.
