Infocus - Christopher Nolan

Hollywood has had many talented Directors who made movies interesting to watch. We got to know lots of history from their movies. Most of them left a mark hard to forget. They were able to show true feelings on screen with some best performances by few legendary actors. The script was the powerful tool and every Director had his own style of execution. There wasn't much Science involved in the story. The focus was on the characters, dialogues, and acting. During the recent times, a lot of Science has been used in the movies. Concepts like Non-Linear narration, Flashbacks and Flash Forwards in the screenplay, Same incidents from different angles, Unfolding of the story from different perspectives, Concepts of illusion, and Time Travel etc.  Directors like Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan have been using this innovative method of storytelling by evoking the interests in the audience through their complex methods in the screenplay.  ...

90s ~ A Celebration #India

For almost all of them in this world, the most joyous time that they had spent in their life would be their childhood days. Especially the early school days where we used to have lots of fun apart from rigorous studies which follows. Yet we never failed to miss the fun that we had with our friends. The best of friends came from those days and rest of the acquaintances that we had after that weren’t as powerful as the ones we had during our school. Our hearts were pure and was ready to offer any help without expecting anything in return. We were built by our friends, parents and teachers. So, the most important memories were during our early school days. Since I was born in the 80s I could fully absorb the vital things that came with the 90s. I was able to fully exploit and enjoy the 90s as far as possible. Till date I never felt at any instance that I had the most memorable moments at any point in time other than the 90s. I was studious as hell but that didn’t avoid me from enjoy...

[InFocus] Majid Majidi

For few Cinema is a science – for instance Christopher Nolan. He brings then concept of science into his films. The screenplay, movie’s core is built on top of science. And why not? We have tried to ascertain every event that happens in our life to science.  Even the music that Nolan feeds in his movies bear science. And I am a great fan of Nolan and his movies. But then there are few directors like Alejandro Gonzalaez Inarittu, Ingmar Bergman, Federico Fellini, Vittorio De Sica who treat Cinema as an art. They have all given importance to characters in the movie and their feelings. They all have expressed human emotions at their best. And here we have one who shows life at its simple and best. Characters defined with utmost simplicity – Majid Majidi. Majidi isn’t a man who complicates cinema. He flows like a thin air, like a pleasant wind. He doesn’t use twisted /webbed screenplays or confuses people with adverse characters. People who portray his films know exactly what the...

Few Decade long Dreams come true

It has been a decade long dream to write some short stories. Although I was an avid blogger, who often used to write about a lot of things, somehow this was undone for in fact a very long time. I was too much into poetry and current events and always felt bored to write short stories and stories. I was not a reader who would read a book that has more than 10 pages. When that is my habit, how would I feel about writing a book that is 100 pages long. These thoughts have been flowing through my mind and kept me from writing stories and short stories. I always would like to write stories in such a way that resembles a movie since it has a valid narrative style. Sometime during Jan 2017 when I was jobless, I started writing full-fledged book by keeping my rule intact of not growing more than 15-20 pages. They could be called short books. I completed two - one was philosophical and the other being related to Economics. Both of them was well received. I had been desperate to write s...

2 Films ~ #SalmanKhan

It was 2006 Diwali. Exactly a year after I moved to Mudichur (near Tambaram) and heavy rains slashed Chennai leaving thousands of families in distress with severe floods. It didn't repeat again in 2006 with Chennaittes hoping for a sound Diwali celebration. It was a Grand Diwali with 2 big Bollywood films Jaan-E-Mann and Don releasing on the same day. Being a Salman Khan fan for over 21 years now and a little over 9 years then (during Jaan-E-Mann release), I was hyper excited with the trailer and the fresh songs. The songs had a big build up to the movie with lavish sets, outdoor locations and being made on a huge budget. The beats of the music were not the usual ones Bollywood had seen. It was so youthful and trendy. The music did wonderfully by beating Don in an instant. I liked almost all the songs from it. The movie was under consistent news anad made headlines for all good reasons something unknown of especially being a Salman Khan film. I wanted the movie to break all b...

World Movies

I have spent over 2 decades watching tamil, english and hindi films. I was quite used to the ways those films were made. A movie with hero-heroines, families, dance, stunts, drama, love etc. Ever since 2010 I started watching world movies. Japanese, Swedish, Polish, German, Italian, Parsian, French etc. I have started to feel cinema in a totally new dimension. My perspective of movies changed totally. The first movie I watched the academy award winning Italian film "Life is Beautiful" by Roberto Benigni. I was awestruck by the simplicity of the movie. Although it was simple, the impat it brought was amazing. I then became a fan of Majid Majidi's Iranian films. Simple, Colorful, Free flowing type movie they were. Jafar Panahi's out of the box thinking for Iranians caught my attention. Ingmar Bergman's characters, the true human feelings were shown in his films. Vittorio De Sica's "The Bicycle thief" is my favorite movie. Akira Kurosawa's mov...
