BrahminGiri ~ A change in Perception
For over hundreds of years,
Brahmins were held high above other castes and were given special privileges by
the rulers of the lands. Their job was to teach Vedas to their disciples and
guide them towards reaching the eternal. There were GuruKulas where the Brahmin
kids used to learn more about God and traditions of our society. They were
deployed in temples and were the designated ones to perform Poojas to the
Supreme power on this planet.
Since the last two hundred years,
where there have been massive revolutions across the globe for freedom, the
mistreatment of the lower castes begun to drop down even in India. The liberals
such as Periyar contributed a lot towards treating everyone equally without any
bias and give equal benefits to all. To a great extent he was the primary force
behind upliftment of the financially and socially backward caste groups. The
Reservation factor was introduced and that helped these people a lot in getting
equal Education and Jobs in the society.
The mentality of nowadays’
Brahmins have changed a lot. They have already started treating everyone
equally with respect and feel for them to reach upward both professionally and
economically. Brahmins feel that reservation is required in the Govt. to make
the still down people to come to light and gear up towards wellness. They feel
for their families and kids. In fact, many of the Brahmins who settled in the
foreign nations are lending helping hands to the abandoned kids and old aged
people across communities. They are the ones who are contributing more
monetarily for the welfare of the people.
But there are few folks still out
there criticizing Brahmins and abusing them online. Whereas we have reached a
stage where Brahmins have gotten well socially with other castes without any
bias, there are few relying on vote bank politics and digging hard on the
Brahmins. Few criticize people like Rajinikanth and even Modi (and the BJP/RSS)
for being Pro-Hindu. The truth is that even the BJP hasn’t done anything good
for the Brahmins. It is unnecessary to tag them communal because they are not
likely to offer any benefits to the Brahmins because they too know that the
majority of the population has Non-Brahmins and if they are to have a good
political run they wouldn’t just be Pro-Brahmins.
We, after having the reached the
stages of globalization, are in a position to improve lifestyle. The
economically backward ones, irrespective of the caste are the ones to be worked
upon for the upliftment. Therefore, it is important to stop banking on vote
politics and work towards development of the nation and the economically
backward people irrespective of the communities. While we must continue giving
preferences to the socially backward castes it is also important to give equal
weightage to the merit system to enable good performance across all sectors of work
and Governance. While we must have the emotive to educate all, we should be equally
responsible to get those who get good marks in the system to carry on their
hopes of higher education. Hard work and good results are significant and we
must have a neutral role while dealing with it.
The BJP and RSS are trying to
preserve the faiths that our customs, traditions and our Kings had in the past,
to believe in the creator of the universe and to apply his principles in life.
They believe and trust in God and why they shouldn’t? They have their rights to
believe in something and nobody can question that. But tagging them communal is
not the right way since actually they aren’t. They want everybody to live in
harmony and would wish all to gear up to a new level in terms of development.
So the political parties out there who rely on Caste’ism, Atheism must stop
digging at the BJP and must rebuild themselves towards giving people a good
platform to live in. The perception has to change. The Brahmins have already
changed and started treating everyone like brothers. It is high time for other Dravidian partiers
to focus on other issues than banking on the old times’ politics.
