Clubs - Of Madrid, Milan, Chennai, and Bangalore

Football clubs have prospered ever since they have been formed. The fans and popularity have been increasing worldwide.

Clubs like AC Milan, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona have history by their side.

Their success in the domestic leagues and European competitions have been phenomenal. They play almost one game a week for the whole year without rest.

These clubs have the best players who are highly talented. The media, newspapers, websites, and social media networking sites celebrate the achievements of the club and the players.

After every domestic and European success, the players parade their trophy through the city. The fans surround and greet them for all their hard work and entertainment. The visuals from Madrid and Milan after their club achievements are spectacular.

These football clubs have a big fan following in India as well. Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United have a big support in India.

India, is a well-known Cricketing nation. Here, Cricket is believed to be a religion.

A look at the population, population density and area coverage of cities like Madrid, Milan, and Manchester suggests that Indian cities like Chennai and Bangalore are on par with these big cities.

Chennai and Bangalore, in fact, have bigger population and density than the other European cities.

Until ten years back, India didn't have club Cricket. We have around 10 clubs as of now. The fans are mad at the sport. The average attendance in every IPL game is around 45000, which almost matches the football attendance in Europe.

As far as value in terms of money, the team value, the brand, the kits, and the products, clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are about $3.5 bn. Remember, these clubs play in the domestic and European leagues and enjoy greater brand value. They play throughout the year, around 80 games every year.

The IPL season has around 18 games played in a month. With these limited business, they contribute a huge sum for India's GDP. Clubs like Chennai Super Kings are worth around $75 mn. This is despite these clubs existence for a mere 10 years.

Lionel Messi is the highest paid footballer with 40 mn EURO. Virat Kohli is the highest paid in IPL with 1.7 mn INR. This is for all he does in a month. There's big money with advertising, brand promotions etc.

Overall, Cricket is nothing short of football and with 1.4 bn population in India, these Cricket clubs will continue to flourish and make them highly valuable with some serious money.

It would be spectacular if our clubs too parade their trophy in front of the fans. Our fans love the game and the players a lot. Cricket will continue to grow and IPL's success will go on for years. Our cities too have the potential to be a Milan/Madrid. Time will tell.
